We are excited to announce an upcoming opportunity for members of the Proudly King’s community to showcase their research, share their stories, and connect with others in our network!
Introducing: The Proudly King's LGBTQIA+ Lecture Series & Proudly Podcast
We are hoping to launch a series of 45-minute lectures, each followed by an in-depth 30-minute “In Conversation With...” podcast episode as part of our relaunch of the Proudly Pod series. The goal of the series is to highlight the incredible LGBTQIA+ research taking place within King’s —whether that’s research on LGBTQIA+ topics or research being conducted by LGBTQIA+ individuals.
We are particularly interested in lectures and podcasts to celebrate Black History Month (October) and Transgender Awareness Week (13-19 November); if you think that your research relates to either of these, we would love to hear from you!
This is a fantastic opportunity for early-career researchers and experienced academics alike to:
Gain valuable experience presenting your research to an engaged and supportive audience
Learn how to adapt your research for an accessible and inclusive lecture format
Discuss your research in a more personal and informal way through a podcast interview
Raise awareness of your work and foster greater community connections
We would be excited to receive expressions of interest from those who:
Are conducting research related to LGBTQIA+ topics, communities, histories, or experiences
Are LGBTQIA+ researchers working in any discipline (though we would ask that the research is presented with reference to LGBTQIA+ topics and/or experiences e.g. how being part of the LGBTQIA+ community informs and influences your research & practise)
Want to practice public engagement and present their work in an accessible way to non-specialist audiences
We welcome expressions of interest from anyone, regardless of academic level—whether you’re an MA student, PhD candidate, or established academic. Past talks have included MA-level research on topics like Queer Representation in Horror Films and From 'Paris is Burning' to #dragrace. We also encourage expressions of interest from those who wish to speak about their own personal experiences and identities—such as a community member discussing asexuality or other lived experiences within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.
Each lecture will be recorded and shared within the Proudly King's network, followed by a podcast episode where we’ll dive deeper into your research, experiences, and career so far. We are open to both online and in-person events, and we will manage the event logistics, working closely with the speaker to ensure they are comfortable and happy with the outcome. Please note that the podcast recording will need to be done in person; however, we will arrange this with the speaker according to their needs and schedule.
In addition to speakers, we are also looking for volunteers with experience in podcast creation and production to help bring this exciting series to life. Whether you have skills in editing, sound design, hosting, or any aspect of podcast production, we would love to hear from you!
If you're interested in volunteering your time and expertise, please get in touch with us at proudlykings@kcl.ac.uk.
