Join the Committee as a General Committee Member or Events Co-Chair

We're looking for motivated and passionate Committee Members to help us make King’s a more inclusive and empowering place for LGBTQ+ people. As a Committee Member, you can make the role your own, do what you enjoy most, and bring your lived experience as an LGBTQ+ staff member and/or ally. Committee Members contribute to Proudly King’s in different ways. At a minimum, we expect all Committee Members to:

-
attend a 1-hour monthly committee meeting
-
join a sub-committee (academia, events, campaigns & strategy)
-
attend monthly meetings
-
work with our values: bringing people together, campaigning for change, welcoming everyone.

We’re a friendly bunch and we’re proud of the progress we’re making towards King’s becoming a fully LGBTQ+ inclusive university.

If you're interested, email proudlykings@kcl.ac.uk and, in no more than 400 words, tell us:

-
Why you would like the role
-
What you will bring to the committee

And while we have your attention...

We are recruiting an Events Co-Chair to take a lead on our social events for Proudly King's
Your weeks will vary depending on the Proudly King’s calendar. You’ll always attend monthly Proudly King’s Committee meetings. Both February and June are events-heavy because it’s LGBT History Month and Pride Month respectively, while the months leading up are all about planning.

You might spend your hours per week:

-
Working with the committee to organise exciting LGBTQ+ events, making sure everyone knows what they’re supposed to do
-
Running brainstorming sessions on how to improve our events
-
Writing newsletter copy and social media posts to get the word out to the King’s Community
-
Talking ideas through with your fellows Proudly King’s Chairs
-
Attending events yourself

What’s in it for me?
You’ll get to work with people outside of your department and develop skills at the same time. The best thing of all is that you’ll be improving the staff experience for LGBTQIA+ people at King’s.
Do I need any specific experience?
No, you don’t have to be an expert in LGBTQIA+ issues or events management just the will and drive to help us. You can be an academic or professional services staff member, we don’t discriminate!
Ok, so what do I need?
You need to care deeply about LGBTQIA+ issues and be interested in running events. Also, if you’re successful, you will absolutely need permission (by email) from your line manager to dedicate 1 hour per week to Proudly King’s. It’s important that you have the time to take on this extra responsibility.

I’m interested. How do I apply?
Email proudlykings@kcl.ac.uk and, in no more than 400 words, tell us:

-
Why you would like the role
-
One event you’d like to run, and how you might make it happen
Please respond by the 31st of July.

If you like the sound of the role but want to know more, message Jack Pool, Kirsty McLaren or Charlotte Taylor on Microsoft Teams.
