About the event

To start off LGBT History Month, the KCL History Department in partnership with Proudly King's will host a special lecture by Dr Chris Parkes on the history of sexology. Sex fascinates; it always has. But the formal study of sexuality and gender as an academic discipline is scarcely 150 years old. What's more, the particular time and place that discipline emerged resonated powerfully through the ages and around the world, far beyond what its initial insights justify. Drawing on their research and expertise, Dr Chris Parkes will explore how sexology emerged and how the purposes it was once put to (mis)shape our thinking about sexuality and gender today.
